Elementary swimming returns after three years

By Brylee Kessler ‘26, staff writer

For the first time since COVID shut it down, the elementary swim program for third and fifth grade students has returned and the students (as well as staff!) are happy to be back in the pool.

“This is the first year in three years since March 2020 we have been able to swim,” explains Mrs. Connie Boyer, gym/swim teacher. “We were actually in a third grade swimming program when COVID hit.”

The two-week program gets students comfortable with the water and teaches them how to swim and dive.

“They love it and are successful by the end of the two weeks,” said Mrs. Boyer, who has taught swimming for over 15 years.  “The program started because swimming is a life skill, and some students do not get the opportunity to swim outside of school.”

Mrs. Marian Chiavaroli assists Mrs. Boyer throughout the program, which culminates with students receiving certificates at the end.
