Four months after its traditional showtime, “Shamokin’s Got Talent” participants delighted students and staff on April 5, the day before Easter break.
Top winners were: most original: Lilly Flynn, sophomore; crowd pleaser: Zak Zanella, senior; and best in show: Aiden Krebs and Samantha Stancavage, both seniors.
The annual talent show usually occurs prior to winter break; however, because many of the participants were suffering from illnesses, the show was postponed.
“Some positives are that there aren't many events during the second half of the school year for all of our students to look forward to, so it is great to be able to provide a little brain break before testing/end of the year,” explained Mrs. Vilcheck, civics and Ancient History 1 teacher and show coordinator. “Some negatives are that everyone looks forward to the talent show before winter break, so it was a tough decision to postpone the show and let people down. I definitely prefer the talent show to be in December. I think it helps us get into 'holiday mode'.”
“I have never experienced the talent show in the spring,” stated Ms. Rock, high school learning support teacher and show coordinator. “There will be many similarities to putting on the talent show in the winter as far as rehearsals are concerned. My hope is that it is as exciting for the students as it has been in the past.”
Despite happening later on in the year, the 8th Annual Talent Show format remained the same as the previous years.
All of the participants in this year’s show each had their own unique acts. At the end of the show, the teacher-judges discussed and presented awards. There were a significant number of performances, but only three trophies were handed out. It depended on how well a certain performer’s act met a specific category.
