The Signal debuts its online news site

Members of the mass media class proudly announce the debut of The Signal, the Student Online News Site of Shamokin Area. The site, which will be updated daily, will be a source of information for news, features, sports, arts and entertainment, and anything else related to the school district.

“After a few years of discussing and planning, the online news site is now a reality and the staff and I are thrilled!” stated Mrs. Patricia Rhoads, adviser. “Many school newspapers have moved to online news sites which make accessing publications easier and efficient, not to mention provide more timely news for our readers.”

A print newspaper, or an online version, has always been a presence in Shamokin Area. In November 2019, the paper returned to its original name, The Signal, and even printed a broadsheet newspaper that year. Since then, editions have been printed in-house by Mr. Anthony Lesher, technology education teacher and Practical Arts Department chairperson.

“We still plan to publish seasonal printed editions, but the online news site will help with disseminating timely information, such as athletic scores, upcoming events, and reminders. This new format also will be interactive for readers by featuring polls to a weekly question,” Rhoads added.

The Signal invites its readers to share story and photo ideas, as well as to ask for coverage of school events, by emailing your ideas and requests to:  thesignal@indians.k12.pa.us.
