Is Shamokin balding early?

Saturday, March 4, 2023 was a tragic night for the hair of Shamokin Area High School Students. The dial tone buzz was quickly interrupted by a plethora of phone calls from teenage boys around the area.

  “They’ve all lost their hair!”

Jayden McKeen, Colton Lynch, Ryder Zulkowski, Rylan Price, and Chase Pensyl, to mention a few, woke up bald the next morning. Though they all made the decision of buzzing off their hair on their own accord three of the boys took it a step further and went blond.

This impulsive decision made by the coal region's beloved heart-throbs put teachers and students alike into a state of mourning over their luscious locks. Coming to school on Monday morning the whispers that filled the halls were all of the same topic. The subject for the next week was why our boys would ever do this to us and debating who pulled off the bald look the best.

One of the boys themselves, Jayden McKeen, tried to answer our questions. “The reason I did it was because I felt like it, there was no real reason other than why not. The 6-inch long hair just wasn’t doing it for me anymore. I have no regrets shaving my head and I would recommend buzzing your hair. People actually think it looks good and it has totally eliminated the maintenance of hair.”

Some of the questions will never be answered and the Eminem look-alikes still roam the halls. The students’ new experiment reminds us that change is good. And fortunately, students and teachers can be at peace knowing that hair will always grow back.
